Aftercare Advice
Nail Aftercare
DO
- Be especially careful in the first 24 hours after application and avoid intense heat during this period (for example saunas, hot baths, sunbeds etc)
- Keep your nails at a workable length. Nails that are too long for your activity level will place the stress area of your enhancement under too much pressure which can result in breakage and damage to your natural nail.
- Use cuticle oil daily to keep your nails nourished, to stimulate growth and prevent lifting.
- Dry the hands thoroughly after washing and apply moisturiser.
- Always wear rubber gloves when washing up, cleaning or gardening.
- Always wash your hands thoroughly after being in contact with chlorine, insect repellent or sunscreen.
- Wear gloves when cooking with spices such as turmeric or curry powders as they can stain the nails. Dye from new jeans or newly colour hair can also stain gel polish.
- If there are signs of nail lifting, come into the salon to correct the enhancement before water and bacteria settle under the nail. This can cause infection if not corrected.
- Always return to the salon for maintenance and removal and follow any advice given to you by your nail technician.
AVOID
- Avoid using your nails as tools as this could lead to cracking. Instead use the pads of your fingers (for example typing).
- Avoid long periods of time in water (for example long baths, swimming, washing up etc).
- Avoid picking or peeling the product off as this could damage your natural nails.
- Avoid filing your nails and pushing your cuticles back, as this will break the seal of the gel and can lead to chipping!
Eyebrow & Eyelash Tinting Aftercare
- Keep brows and lashes clean and dry for 48 hours.
- Do not touch or rub the eyebrows or eyelashes for 24 hours after treatment.
- Do not apply make-up, creams or oils to the treatment area for at least 24 hours after. Oil based makeup remover can cause tints to fade faster.
- Avoid using contact lenses for the rest of the day.
- Avoid swimming/ strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- Avoid any extremes of temperature for 24 hours post treatment. e.g. hot showers, steam baths or saunas.
- Do not allow prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or sunbeds where possible, exposure can cause the tint to fade faster.
- Inform your practitioner if you are planning on having any further cosmetic eye or eyebrow treatments, they will advise when it is best to have this done.
- Results will start to fade after 4-6 weeks but this depends on the rate of growth of new hairs.
- Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any unwanted side effects following treatment.
- Any allergy symptoms to the tint/ dye such as red rash, swelling or if you feel unwell, you must seek urgent medical attention.
- Please do let your practitioner know if you have any questions or if you do not understand any of the aftercare instructions provided above.
Waxing Aftercare
Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 24 - 48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours.
This means:
- No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only).
- No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.
- No tanning (sunbathing, sun beds or fake tans).
- No sport, gym work or other exercise.
- Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed
- hands.
- Wear clean, loose fitting clothes.
- Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
- Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or
- other products to the area, other than those recommended by
- your therapist.
To soothe and protect the skin, apply an antiseptic cream to the waxed area regularly for 3 days following your treatment. Always wash your hands before applying any product. To prevent ingrown hairs: starting a few days after your appointment and then continuing a couple of times every week, exfoliate the areas you get waxed using a dry brush or exfoliating mitt. Take the brush and just before you step into the bath or shower gently brush the area you get waxed whilst your skin and the brush is dry. After you’ve bathed/showered, apply some baby oil or E45 lotion to the waxed area. Moisturise every day to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through normally. Don’t exfoliate too much or too rough as this can graze the skin and cause ingrown hairs.
You may notice a small amount of re growth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results. You will need at least 3-4 weeks growth of hair before it can be successfully removed by waxing. Please do not shave between your appointments. To maintain your smooth appearance, I recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks.
Massage Aftercare
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours, as massage is a detoxifying treatment
- Drink plenty of water to assist in the elimination of toxins from the body
- Eat a light diet to assist the detoxification and healing process
- Get plenty of rest. You may feel tired after treatment
- Gentle exercise – postural exercises can help with muscle tension as well as exercises that will assist with mobility. Yoga is a suitable and gentle option.
- Do breathing exercises to assist with taking in oxygen to your fullest capacity
- Research the possibility of treatment options to assist with stress and other conditions, if necessary.
Contra-actions (healing)
Occasionally, you may experience any of the following reactions up to 24-48 hours after treatment; this is known as a contra-action and is the body’s response to the treatment:
- Headache
- Dizziness or nausea
- Disrupted sleeping pattern
- Muscles may feel tired and achy
- Increased urination or passing stools
- Increased thirst
- Fatigue
These reactions are uncommon but perfectly normal and show that toxins are being expelled from the body, so that it may re-balance and cleanse itself.
Makeup Aftercare
- Be aware of allergic reactions – in the event of this remove with damp cotton wool and apply a soothing lotion such as calamine lotion.
- To re-apply lipstick, do this with a lip brush, apply lip gloss and blot.
- Avoid activities such as swimming, saunas, steam rooms and other hot environments.
- Avoid touching the face.
- Use a spray fixative or setting powder to make the products on the face last longer.
- Use blotting sheets/paper that soak up excess oil on the skin without ruining makeup.
- Removal of products – use eye make up remover and cleanser.
- Try to cleanse, tone and moisturise your face twice a day using products suitable for your skin type.
- Give your skin a day of ‘rest’ so it can return to its normal pH and prevent the chance of break-out and stress of the skin!
Spray Tan Aftercare
- DO NOT shower for 12 hours after the tan
- Do not apply moisturiser for 24 hours
- Avoid steam rooms, sunbeds, and excessive exercise for 12 hours or there’s a high chance you’ll go streaky!
- Once you shower, let the water wash the excess product off. Don’t worry, your tan won’t disappear!
- Avoid sitting on leather or pale coloured fabrics!
- Pat yourself dry instead of rubbing with a towel
- Apply moisturiser daily (after 24 hours) to prolong your tan
