Contra-indications

A contraindication is a condition that a client may have that will prevent or restrict a treatment being carried out. Some of these conditions may need GP/medical approval to be carried out.

Contra-indications for nails:

  • Nail Infections e.g. fungal infections.
  • Skin Disorders affecting hands and the feet e.g. warts and verrucas.
  • Broken sore skin in treatment area 
  • Nail separation 
  • Bruising or broken bones
  • Recent scar tissue 
  • Extremely weak nails 
  • Badly bitten nails

Contra-indications for hair removal: 

  • Insulin dependent Diabetic – must have a letter from a GP. Due to some people with diabetes have skin that is very slow to heal. The skin will be watched closely to make sure it does not over react to treatments
  • Use of skin peeling, skin thinning preparations 
  • Scar tissue (6 months minor operation or 2 years major operation)
  • Underarms: Mastitis
  • Skin disorders or diseases, such as bruising or recent haemorrhage
  • Severe bruising 
  • Fractures or Sprains
  • Loss of tactile skin sensation 
  • Circulatory problems such as, varicose veins 
  • Medication & allergies 
  • Sunburn
  • Broken skin or other impediments in immediate treatment area e.g. cuts, sores, warts, moles, skin tabs, swellings, lumps and bumps should be fully disclosed to therapist
  • Folliculitis. This is a common skin condition that happens when hair follicles become inflamed. It's often caused by an infection with bacteria. At first it may look like small pimples around the tiny pockets from where each hair grows (hair follicles)
  • Receiving cancer therapy (chemotherapy or radiation)

  • Tretinnoin
  • Avage
  • Differin

Contra-indications for eye area treatments:

  • Positive reaction to Patch Test
  • Styes
  • Cysts
  • Blepharitis
  • Trauma, cuts, abrasions, burns and swelling in the immediate area 
  • Scar tissue (6 months minor operation or 2 years major operation)
  • Chemotherapy
  • Post Chemotherapy
  • Recent lash perming service
  • Eye infections such as Impetigo or Conjunctivitis
  • Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye)
  • Eye inflammation such as Uveitis -Recent operations around eyes, head, or face or scar tissue in immediate areas
  • Skin disorders in the general eye area (Dermatitis, Xanthelasma & Syringoma)
  • Weak eyelashes (therapists discretion on consultation)
  • Alopecia (loss of hair)
  • Trichotillomania (compulsive urge to pull one’s hair out)
  • Recent operations around eyes
  • Dry eye syndrome
  • Watery eyes (Hayfever, colds etc)
  • Hay fever/ Rhinitis
  • Hypersensitive skin/eyes
  • Contact lenses (MUST be removed prior to treatment)
  • Glaucoma
  • Clausrophobia
  • Pregnancy (Hormones can affect results of treatment)
  • Bells Palsy or any condition that makes closing or opening eyes difficult
  • Any disease or disorder that causes shaking, twitching or erratic movements

Contra-indications for massage:

  • Cuts or open wounds
  • Bruises
  • Varicose veins
  • Broken bones
  • Burns
  • Some skin conditions
  • Fever
  • Contagious Diseases
  • Blood Clots
  • Pregnancy
  • Kidney Conditions or Liver Conditions
  • Cancer
  • Inflammation
  • Uncontrolled Hypertension

Contra-indications for makeup:

  • Virus / Bacterial / Fungal Infections
  • Conjunctivitis.
  • Undiagnosed Lumps or Swelling
  • Skin Conditions
  • Cancer
  • Head Lice
  • New/ recent scar tissue (6 months minor operation or 2 years major operation)
  • Recently consumed drugs/alcohol

Contra-indications for spray tans:

  • Respiratory problems
  • A known allergy to DHA
  • Open cuts/wounds
  • Severe skin conditions i.e. eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis
  • Excessively dry skin
  • Acne
  • Recent tattoos
  • Breastfeeding mothers
  • Recent body piercings
  • Recent Heat treatments i.e. waxing/sauna/steam room
